When Fear Holds You Captive; Finding the Freedom to Say “Yes” to God

Fear and Anxiety used to paralyze me. Not in a way that was obvious to others. It was a quiet, secretive fear. It kept me from making leaps and assured that my steps kept me captive. For years, I thought I held it at bay.

There were missed opportunities. A Women of Faith training conference in Texas. A mission trip to Jamaica. Great opportunities. I feared being away from my family. I feared not making it back to my kids. I feared the unknown.

The mission trip was actually one my husband considered going on. We had two little ones at the time and I panicked at the idea of him not returning. It was so beyond my control. Yes, all of life is. But, I was still trying to keep it in my little box. An amazing man not wanting to distress his wife. A missed opportunity. A victory for the enemy.

Our Move from Ohio to Hawaii

Our move to Hawaii happened in the blink of an eye. Three offers from a company that weren’t what we wanted. Three times we turned them down. And then God spoke to our hearts. We were scared. He had sent us the lifeboat, but we kept right on waiting for a ship to come. We knew where He wanted us, so we called back and accepted the last offer. Life moved really quickly from there. Eight weeks after accepting the position we were living in Hawaii.
